该剧以上世纪30年代上海电影人和“延安电影团”的传奇经历为故事原型，讲述几个年轻的热血电影人在局势动荡、国势衰微的环境中，在迷惘中寻找方向，最后成长为以胶片作武器的革命战士的人生历程。曾经扮演过张学良的著名演员陈剑飞担任制片人兼导演。陈剑飞透露，除了罗海琼等演员，刘佩琦、冯远征、林永健、屠洪刚等演员也将加盟该剧。陈剑飞还表示，故事在6位年轻人之间展开，他们中有导演、演员、编剧、摄影、美工，代表了电影创作中的典型角色。不同于以往的老电影人传记片，该剧取材于真实的故事，人物关系却是虚构的。“开机首场大戏将重现淞沪会战的战争场面。”陈剑飞表示，“电视剧就要开机了，现在正在为淞沪会战作准备。在那个硝烟四起的年代，我们的老电影人坚持着艺术与革命之路，片中会用到大量的真实道具和场景，场面非常宏大。而为求真实，所有工作人员和演员都做好了准备。”由于该剧故事涉及了当年很多老电影人的经历，八一电影制片厂特别派出了经验丰富的、在影视作品中操作过多场著名战役的烟火师、枪炮师入组拍摄淞沪会战场面。陈剑飞表示，他
