1927年中共中央政治局“八七”会议前后，中国共产党以毛泽东、朱德等为代表的先驱们，积极开展了创建人民军队的探索和实践。1927年8月1日南昌起义成功后，部队实施战略转移南下广东，在潮汕地区遭到反动派血腥镇压，朱德等率领仅剩的革命火种进行饶平整编，蜇伏粤北，苦苦寻找革命的方向。9月9日，毛泽东领导发动了秋收起义，后部队转战江西永新，在三湾村进行了改编，将党支部建在连上，确定了上井冈山建立革命根据地的行动方向。1927年冬，农民运动在湖南蓬勃发展，朱德率部乘机挺进湘南，掀起湘南暴动，百万农军揭竿而起。1928年4月，朱德率湘南起义军和毛泽东领导的红军在井冈山胜利会师，中国共产党领导的人民军队进一步发展壮大。革命的星星之火，终于成燎原之势。

该片根据日本小说家中脇初枝的同名短篇小说改编，原作曾荣获第28届坪田让治文学奖以及2013年本屋大奖，原作重点描述了虐待儿童、轻视、欺负、学生不听话等各种不良的社会问题，通过导演吴美保的镜头，将这些并非简单的学校与家庭的社会教育问题一一揭露。
